Welcome to frantisek-skroup.cz, the ultimate destination for all things related to the talented composer Franz Skroup. As the author of his Rotterdam story, I am excited to share with you the stories and insights that I have uncovered about this musical genius. My goal with this website is to not only provide information about the book, but also to give you a glimpse into the life and work of Franz Skroup.

Allow me to introduce myself:


  • My name is Markéta Dočekalová and I am the author of the book that these pages are about.
  • I studied journalism at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the UK, I received the M.Sc. (Graduation in 1991).
  • I studied screenwriting and creative writing in the US with such educators as (or were) Syd Field, Lew Hunter, Richard Walter, Michael Hauge and others.
  • I am currently a PhD student at the Metropolitan University in Prague. I am pursuing a degree in media studies and my research work is in the area of fake news and disinformation.
  • I am a college teacher, teaching creative writing, nonfiction, radio nonfiction, screenwriting, and creative thinking full time.
  • I have four years of experience in the media in Western Europe.
  • Between 1990 and 1994, I worked as an external foreign correspondent for Czechoslovak and later Czech Radio for the Benelux region.
  • I am the author of creative writing textbooks, which are among the best-selling in the Czech Republic.
  • I have a rich publishing activity in the field of creative writing.
  • I am not just a theorist, I have more than 30 years of experience in the media (newspapers, magazines, radio, television, internet, publishing, book market). I have been publishing independently in the media since I was 15 years old.
  • I am the author of two novels (now actually three, if I count the book about František Škroup).
  • I am signed under hundreds of realized TV scripts.
  • I was at the creation of the popular Czech TV series "The Street" and participated in writing the scripts for the first seven hundred episodes.
  • I was a member of the jury of the Slovak National Literary Award several times (one of the most prestigious literary competitions in Slovakia).
  • I chaired the jury of the literary competition organized by the National Theater in 2018: From stone to gold, from theater to state, or Three eight-year anniversaries.
  • I am the chairman of the jury for the Ivona Březinová Literary Competition.
  • I work as an expert in the field of cinematography for the European Commission in Brussels.
